Information and Social Media

Image
You ever wonder what it would be like being an NFL coach and having to listen to all 70,000 people in the stadium.  Before you signal a play into your quarterback you have to take into account the opinion of every fan watching on TV.  Of course this is a ridiculous scenario.  It does mimic in some ways what it is like trying to get information on social media.  There is no shortage of "information" posted on social media.  I am not interested in the general Tik Toc (not even sure if I spelled it correctly) get rich quick type of information.  I am interested in getting information on a specific topic.  I especially interested in being informed on local issues. I feel that local issues have an immediate and direct impact on my quality of life.  How local tax dollars are spent are of great importance to me.  I find it disappointing that voter turnout for local elections is very low.  It is encouraging that this trend seems to be rev...

Justifying Decisions

Image
Lucy, you have some splainin' to do. How do we justify our decisions?  Before answering that, do we even need to?  I googled "justifying decisions"  and was surprised at the number of responses.  I was also struck by the variety of replies as well.  The basic definition returned was "To justify a decision, action, or idea means to show or prove that it is reasonable or necessary".  That seems to be vague enough to fit any situation.  Who defines "reasonable?" When I started this post I had no intention of expanding on last week's entry regarding Bud Light.  However, after starting this I soon realized that most of the recent news items regarding Bud Light have been critiques of Bud Light's justification of their marketing decisions.  It seemed that the more Bud Light tried to justify their marketing decision the madder people got.  What is the saying, "if your in a hole stop digging".  I still think there are more important t...

Bud Light: Beer or Life style

Image
Let me state for the record that I have never enjoyed Budweiser beer and I cannot recall if I have ever had a Bud Light (Lite??).  I reacted to the current uproar over Bud Light's new promotional campaign with the mother of all eye rolls.  I really had no interest in spending any time or resources understanding the controversy.  I had even less desire listening to the reaction of those directly or indirectly affected by Bud Light's decisions.  Just to catch you all up, Bud Light decided to change it's marketing focus to a younger "hipper" demographic.  To that end the parent company of Bud Light, Anheuser Busch contracted a Trans women as a spokesperson.  The reaction was swift and thunderous.  Everything from simply boycotting the product to unloading several rounds of ammunition on unsuspecting cans of Bud Light.  You can search the web for Kid Rocks video.  I am not going to provide a link. Why am I writing about this when my initia...

Attended My first City Council Meeting

Image
I attended my first McKinney City Council meeting yesterday.  This is a link to the video recording of the meeting  McKinney City Council .  Have a look at this link only if you have trouble sleeping LOL.  this was a unique Council meeting in that there was basically a single item on the agenda.  This single item was my reason for attending the meeting.  The city of McKinney has an airport that is currently used by private planes and cargo planes.  As I gathered from last nights meeting this is what is referred to as general aviation.  There is a proposal to add commercial aviation to the airport.  This would offer commercial flights from carriers such as American or Delta.  Currently commercial aviation in this area is serviced by Love field and DFW airport. My main reason for attending the council meeting was to learn about the proposal.  As residents of the city we will be voting on a Bond proposal that will provide fundin...
