Audience and Impact

Image
When making decisions, any normal person would account for those impacted by the decision.  Even if that impact is a negative one.  When weighing the the pros and cons of a particular course of action you may realize that someone may be negatively affected by your decision.  However, you decide that the pros outweigh the cons and you do your best to mitigate the harmful impact on that person or group of people.  You may decide that the negative impact is actually a pro and proceed happily.  Definitely not a attitude I support, nor one I would encourage.  How do we deal with those around us when we make decisions?  Other than those around us that are directly impacted by the decision should we even care? The first step would be to categorize the people that revolve around our decisions.  At first I theorized 3 distinct groups.  They were the impacted, the participants and the audience.  In writing this weeks post I discovered a fou...

Should I stay or should I go?

I have been at this blog for about a year now.  I have consistently produced postings every Wednesday since August of 2022.  I have come across a number of situations and have learned a lot about myself from them.  I decided to learn what other people have to say about the topic.  I opened my public library app on my tablet.  I searched for books on decision making.  As most search engines do it offered the phrase "The Art of decision makin", so I used the that.  Up popped a book called "Start, Stay or Leave: The art of decision making".  The author is Trey Gowdy.  According to the bio Trey Gowdy is a TV personality but I do not ever recall seeing him.  He is also a former congressman and federal prosecutor.  I admit that I selected the book based on the title "Start, stay or Leave",  it reminded me of a Clash song "Should I stay or should I go".  I am about a third of the way through the book and have found some of...

Well, is it safe to go to town?

No picture today I started this blog to work through decisions.  I was approaching that time in ones life when decisions needed to be made.  These decisions would basically affect how I was going to live the rest of my life.  Retiring is not a downward spiral to the end of ones useful life but it does enact some constraints.  Once retired you have basically stopped earning income and what you have saved is what you need to live on.  You need to make decisions that will allow you to live and not run out of money.  Of equal concern is restricting life too much to save money.  So much so that you miss out on having fun in retirement. I absolute adore the area we have chosen to retire to.  Historic McKinney has beautiful tree lined streets and wonderful homes.  The Historic central square is a short walk (or bike ride) from our house and has shops and great restaurants.  We moved into the area in the fall of 2019.  Then covid hit ...

Warning signs

Image
Sign, sign Everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery Breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that Can't you read the sign? Lyrics from the song Signs by the Five man Electrical Band.  They don't make music like that anymore.  Signs are everywhere, but do you heed them?  I pass the sign above quite often when I ride my bike through the park.  I usually heed this one.  I did text this image to my grandson and all he wanted to do was go snake hunting.  One mans warning is another's invitation. Like the song says signs are everywhere.  Apparently this song was written after a trip on old route 66 and the writer was dismayed at the number of signs and billboards literally blocking the scenery.  We are constantly inundated with warning signs.  These range from the obvious ones, speed limits, no right turn, danger poison.  To the more ridiculous,  Warning this peanut butter contains peanut products (true really).   They also a...
